Most visitors to Gay Palm Springs fly into Los
Ange les or San Diego and drive to Palm Springs, which is a two-hour drive. There is nonstop air service into Palm Springs International Airport from nearly 20 cities at peak season, including San Francisco and Los Angeles (both year-round) and as far away as Atlanta and Chicago. If you fly in, you will need to rent a car to get around. High season in Palm Springs runs from mid-October through late April.

There are two stops in Palm Springs, one for the Sunset Limited up by I-10; the second ("Amtrak's Bakersfield to Indio (Jackson St. and Southern Pacific Tracks Daily service with stops in Palm Springs, N. Indian Canyon and Amado and Palm Desert Town Center, Monterey and San Gorgonio. 1-800-USA-RAIL (872-7245) actually is motor coach service to/from Amtrak's San Joaquin route in Bakersfield, and stops at Palm Springs International Airport. Recent revisions to the Sunset's schedule make one day trips to Los Angeles possible. The daily service to/from Bakersfield allows for trips to northern and Central California without having to drive through Los Angeles

TRANSPORTATION:
The best way to explore Palm Springs and the incredible
desert surrounding is by car. Public transportation is available, but not very practical.
DRESS:
Dress in Palm Springs is very casual. Shorts are the norm at most establishments, however the more upscale restaurants may require pants. The weather is very warm so leave the heavy sweaters and long sleeve shirts behind. Oh, and don't forget your sunglasses and suntan lotion.

WEATHER
Palm Springs its famed warm, dry climate, with 354 days of sunshine and less than 6 inches of rain annually. Winter temperatures average in the 70s with nights in the low-to-mid 40s, spring high temps in the 80's to mid 90's, with nights in 50's and 60's, the dry desert heat of summer pushes daytime temperatures well above 100, with overnight temperatures in the mid-to-upper 70s, and in fall temperatures are in the 80's and 90's with overnight temperatures in the 50's and low 60's. In general, very high temperatures in the summer are made bearable by the dryness of the desert heat. Summer evenings and nights are very pleasant.
